Meet peter
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Peter Lik is the son of Czech immigrants. From the time he was eight years old, he had a knack for photography. On his eighth birthday his parents gave him a Kodak Brownie camera - his very first camera - and from then on, he knew his life dream. The natural and breathtaking beauties of his hometown provided him with the first steps toward a career in landscape photography. Exploring the land and capturing every beautiful picture he could is what helped Lik appreciate the natural beauties of the world.
In 1984, Lik decided to travel to America to begin a new journey that would set his career in photography in full motion. He was intrigued by the country and its sense of national pride, freedom, and natural beauty. When he heard about the Medium Format Panoramic camera, he had to have it. In Lik's eyes, the profession was "Go big or go home." He was determined to have the best equipment and willing to endure the hardest climates to capture what he explains as "the perfect moment." After exploring the country for a few years and photographing its wonderous views, he returned to Australia and opened his first gallery and a fine art publishing company near his hometown in Cairns.
By 1989, Peter Lik's career was well under way. He travelled back to the U.S. with a new goal: capture the landscapes of all 50 states. This was, according to the artist, the "biggest challenge" of his life. Highlights from his adventure can be found in the book he published called Spirit of America.
Since his journey, Peter had been awarded "Master Photographer" in both the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). He now owns 13 galleries displaying his world famous artwork and has been exposed in a TV series produced by NBC that is featured on The Weather Channel called From the Edge With Peter Lik. Peter continues to enjoy his work and make amazing art!
